Purpose of R600A refrigerant
Refrigerant R600a commonly known as isobutane is an organic compound belonging to the family of saturated hydrocarbons. It belongs to the so-called “natural refrigerants”, i.e. substances formed as a result of natural processes occurring in nature. It is odorless, colorless and heavier than air. As an environmentally benign refrigerant, R600a (with zero ODP and very low WSE) began to be widely used in the 1990s as a replacement for the “banned” R12 and the “perspective-free” R134A, mainly in home refrigerators and smaller commercial refrigerators. However, because it is a flammable gas - it is intended for use in new R600a installations and is not suitable for use in existing fluorocarbon installations. However, due to its low volumetric cooling capacity, it requires a specially designed compressor and the use of a longer capillary compared to those used for synthetic refrigerants such as R-1234A
