The difficult situation on the refrigerant market
The refrigerant market has been in turmoil in 2017. After the huge price spikes in the first half of the calendar year, the prices became almost steady by the end of August. However in September, due to the EPA inspections all over China, many chemical plants such as fluorite factories had to shut down their production lines, which caused raw materials to become scarce and highly sought again. AHF prices increased almost by 100% in a very short period of time, resulting in another price spike. This has lasted throughout the whole September, with the prices of most refrigerants, such as R125, increasing by 20~30%. In September's last two weeks, most factories stopped making offers to their clients due to shortage of raw materials.
There are rumours on the market that some major producers will stop their production lines to perform maintenance during the next two months. It is very likely that the prices will continue to rise during October and November.
